Learn the natives' secret to heart health...
Learn the natives' secret to heart health...
Dear Reader,
If you think a low fat diet is the way to go I would like you to consider this...
The Native American Indians had amazingly good health without any signs of modern day illnesses like heart disease. Their secret? A high fat diet.
They knew how to get the most out of their food. Nothing went to waste. They used every part of the animal including the muscle meat, tongue, organs, blood, intestines, fat, and even the bones.
What made the bones so special was what is hidden inside - a highly valued creamy substance full of flavor and full of fat. I am talking about the marrow. It was a staple in their diet. It provided a good source of fat. They also considered the marrow highly nutritious. An important part of nutrition of their children included various preparations of it.1
Fat was so important to their diets that they often selectively hunted for animals that had more fat. And when the hunting was good they killed animals just for their tongues, fat, and marrow, and threw the rest away. They usually ate the marrow raw and knew exactly how to break the femur bone so it would split open just right and expose the hidden treasure inside that they valued so much.2
Even though their diet was high in fat, they had remarkable good health without any signs of modern day diseases like diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease. In fact, early explorers described them as tall, well built and muscular.3 They had the stamina, speed, and strength for the hunt. In fact, one early explorer wrote that the men could run after a deer for an entire day without resting and without any fatigue.4
The meat, organs, fat and bone marrow from the animals they ate (buffalo, deer, caribou, antelope, fish, etc.) provided them with protein and much of their fat-soluble vitamins and minerals and essential fatty acids.
In a Colorado State University and Perdue University study of fatty acids of ruminant animals (grazing animals such as deer, antelope, buffalo, caribou, elk, etc.) similar to that consumed by native Americans, the bone marrow was found to be a high source of monounsaturated fat.5 It also contained saturated and polyunsaturated fats, but in smaller amounts.
Monounsaturated fat is the good fat. And since Native Americans got plenty of it in their diet it can explain their good health. Because studies show that monounsaturated fats6:
* Helps prevent heart disease and stroke
* Lower LDL (bad cholesterol) and raise HDL (good cholesterol)
* Helps improve insulin sensitivity
* Promotes healthy skin and cell development
* Protects against certain cancers, such as breast cancer
* Eases inflammation
So if you want the health of the Native Americans in today's modern world skip the low fat diet and make sure you get enough of the good fats. Good sources of monounsaturated fats are:
* Olive Oil
* Avocados
* Almonds
* Peanuts
* Hazelnuts
* Walnuts
* Sesame Seeds
* Pumpkin Seeds
And of course a good source is from bone marrow. Now I am not suggesting you go and hunt down a buffalo, but you can get nutritious benefits of bone marrow from grass fed cattle. Actually, the same study of fatty acids that I mentioned earlier found that grass fed cattle had similar fat composition to North American ruminants.7
I know the natives typically ate bone marrow raw, but you'll probably enjoy it much more if it is cooked. And you'll be surprised at how tasty it really is. Give it a try.
You can also find bone marrow served in fine restaurants where chefs consider it a delicacy. For example, the marrow is often the best part of the Italian dish "Osso Bucco". But if you would rather not spend the time searching for it in restaurants, you can easily prepare it at home. I buy it from Grassland Beef and prepare it myself. Here are some easy ways to prepare it.
* Place bones in a baking pan, cut side up. Bake at 400 degrees F for about 20 minutes. Or you can place them in a pan with water or broth and simmer for about 30 minutes.
* You can use the marrow as a tasty garnish on meat or for extra flavor in stews and soups.
* You can also spread it on bread or toast and top with salt and pepper. Or you can top it with onions, capers, black pepper, or some fresh herbs.
To Your Good Health,

Is Your Brain Starving?
Do you find yourself forgetting where you left your car keys... or just feel like your brain is in a fog sometimes?
Contrary to popular belief, forgetfulness is not just a normal part of growing older. As you age, your brain loses critical nutrients that it needs to fire on all cylinders.
If your mental spark plugs aren't firing like they used to, don't worry. I'll show you how to get your brain's engine back to running as smooth as a Rolls Royce. You just need to know what's missing and how to get it.
Your Brain is Begging for Nutrients
Your brain uses chemicals called neurotransmitters to transmit messages in the brain. There are millions of these messages happening every second. Neurotransmitters are conductors of these messages, allowing them to fire from one part of your brain to another.
One important neurotransmitter is acetylcholine (ACh). Your body uses ACh to help regulate your heart, breathing, and sleep. Your body even uses it to control your muscles and keep you fired up for the bedroom.
Here's the thing... your brain needs you to supply certain nutrients to make neurotransmitters.
But there's a key nutrient it uses to make ACh that is probably missing from your diet. It's called choline, and if you don't get enough, you're headed for trouble.
Choline is a necessary nutrient for overall brain health and functioning and it is important to avoid nutritional deficiencies to keep your brain sharp and healthy.1
When you don't give the body enough choline, the brain is forced to get it from other parts of your brain. It starts eating itself alive to get what it needs for vital functions like heart and lung regulation.
I'll show you ways to get the choline your brain needs in a second, but first let me introduce you to choline's partner - DMAE.
DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol) works with choline to create ACh. In fact, it does such a good job, the FDA almost approved it as a drug. The only reason it didn't happen is that the manufacturer didn't want to pay the expenses to get it classified as one.
But it is the main ingredient in a commonly prescribed drug in Europe. Called Centrophenoxine, it has been shown to boost cognitive functions.2
Unlike Ritalin® and other brain substances, proper doses of DMAE are a safe and side-effect-free solution to support brain health and reduce age-related mental decline and mood/behavioral problems.3
Get These Critical Brain Saving Nutrients Now
To get the nutrition your brain needs to stay sharp and clear, you may need to combine food and supplementation. Here's how to get your ACh cranking:
Choline - You need at least 425 mg a day as a woman, 550 mg if you're a man. The richest food sources of choline are (in mg per 100 g of food):
* Whole cooked eggs - 272. Make sure you get free-range eggs without antibiotics or hormones. They'll help fuel your muscles as well as give you much-needed choline.
* Raw egg yolks - 682. Go ahead and crack open a couple eggs into your protein shake. It's only an urban legend that there's danger in eating them raw.
* Chicken liver - 290. Though some people get turned off by organ meats, they're a potent source of high-powered nutrition. And it's an old wives tale that they store toxins - they don't.
* Turkey liver - 220. Another great source of nutrition. Just like any liver, it also provides vitamin A, CoQ10 and iron.
* Pork - 130. Just like beef, you want to eat organic, grass-fed animals only for the proper balance of fats and zero hormones and antibiotics.
If you're older, you may need more - as much as 1500 mg a day. That may require supplementation. If you take a supplement, be sure it's in the form of choline citrate.
DMAE - You need at least 35 mg of DMAE a day. Fish is a good food source, especially sardines and anchovies.
So stop starving your brain of these critical nutrients. They're easy to replace and will help to promote a healthy mind into your golden years.
Anti-aging skin care
Taking care of skin, the massive outer layer of the human skeleton, should always be a priority. But, never more so than when time begins to alter that "glow of youth". For those born with great genes, aging skin is delayed. More often than not, however, aging skin must have a beauty regimen on a daily basis to retain texture, buoyancy and prevent wrinkles.
Aging isn't the only element that damages skin. Improper sun protection, pollutants, poor diet and other factors such as cigarette smoking or overindulgence in alcohol, all damage skin from the inside that eventually begins to affect outer layers of skin.
Anti-aging skin care is a priority no one can afford to ignore. Skin ages by degree and accelerates by midlife and beyond. Slowing that aging process isn't impossible. Using the right skin care products is the first step to retard damage to skin that's lost its radiance and texture. Aging skin needs moisture in order to maintain suppleness. It also requires anti-oxidants to protect it from further damage.
Beautiful skin is always an attention-getter. Decreasing the signs of aging around the eyes, mouth and chin can be accomplished with healthy regimen of anti-aging skin care products designed especially for aging skin. Anything of great value always requires attention and care. This is especially true of skin. Applying moisturizers regularly, pampering the skin with nourishing skin care products is essential to this requirement of attention and care. The result is clearly evident. Tiny lines and wrinkles are less prominent and add to a more youthful overall glow.
Using anti-aging skin products is always preferable to surgical procedures or artificial plumping of skin. These are temporary methods that don't really address the obvious problem of lack of proper skin care. Anti-aging skin care products base their effectiveness on visible results that endure over time and keep skin healthier. Healthier skin through proper cleansing, gentle moisturizing and toning are all part of an anti-aging regimen for all types of skin, i.e., oily, dry and in-between.
Anti-aging skin products also address adult acne problems by creating a pH balance that's ideal for aging skin. Maintaining that balance on a daily basis keeps adult skin clean and acne-free. The usual causes of aging skin problems have less of an effect when skin purity is improved. Removing makeup properly before cleansing is important. Anti-aging skin products are gentle to sensitive areas around the eyes and are created without harsh chemicals to achieve results.
Anti-aging moisturizing creams for day and night offer maximum skin protection. Even oily skin types need some moisturizer to protect from weather extremes. Dry to medium skin types should seek overall moisturizing care to prevent dryness, scaling or flakiness before it occurs.
Aging causes skin to change. Such changes needn't be an indication of neglected skin. The time invested in caring for aging skin is insurance of good appearance as well as healthy well-being.
Finding a Provider: A Brief Overview of Senior Homecare
Before starting Gilbert Guide, I was unaware of the issues that come with finding an in-home caregiver. As it turns out, I wasn't alone. A lot of people think that you just open the phonebook, pick up the phone, say what you want, and the senior homecare provider just shows up. If you're unhappy, the company replaces the person. That scenario doesn't necessarily work all the time. Figuring out who is actually on the other end of that phone is trickier than most people think. And what muddies the water even more is that you can unknowingly open yourself up to certain liabilities and responsibilities, depending on how you choose to find a senior care provider.
I have learned the ins and outs of finding senior care and I want to simplify the process for you, because had I begun the process on my own, I would have encountered a great deal of frustration--much of which is avoidable and entirely unnecessary. Although I was surprised by the subtle nuances, there are some key differences that I can point out that will make you a more astute searcher when it comes time to find a senior care provider.
Years of corresponding with National Private Duty Association members and speaking with the average consumer have helped prepare me for discussions on the primary issues that you will encounter when searching for, hiring, and working with the right senior homecare agency. Use the following senior homecare options as you would any roadmap to ensure that you find a senior care provider that's right for you and your loved one.
Find a Senior Care Provider from Many Options
There are three types of senior homecare options: full-service agencies, referral agencies, and private-hire caregivers. While the first two include necessary services such as pre-screening and reference checking, the third option leaves the door wide open when you want to find a senior care provider, meaning you are responsible for most, if not all, of the required duties of being an employer.
- Full-service agencies cover many of the important aspects in hiring a caregiver, such as pre-screening, checking references, providing worker's compensation, handling payroll taxes, and carefully monitoring and supervising caregivers that are placed in a home.
- Referral agencies take care of the initial aspects of the in-home care process, but once you find a senior care provider through the agency, your business relationship ends there and you are responsible for the rest. The referral agency will pre-screen and check references but does not supervise a caregiver in the home. However, you will be required to insure and supervise the caregiver--as well as handle payroll, worker's compensation, and all applicable taxes.
- Private-hire caregivers are found through alternate channels like personal recommendations, online listings, and healthcare organizations. You will be required to perform the background check and interview the caregiver yourself. Much like referral agencies, you will be responsible for insurance and supervision of the caregiver, worker's compensation, payroll, and other taxes. Should you decide to find a senior care provider on your own by hiring a private-hire caregiver, ElderCarePay and PayCycle both manufacture payroll software that you can use to ensure proper payment of taxes during each pay cycle (1).
Bringing anyone into your home necessitates a bit of protection, and senior homecare providers are no different. Protect yourself and your property (or your loved one's belongings) by securing records and valuables in a lock box, collecting the mail yourself, and reviewing credit statements carefully each month.
Remain Proactive Throughout the Process
When looking for the right senior homecare agency, find out whether they are a full-service homecare agency, a referral agency, or an independent contractor. Before calling a senior homecare agency, evaluate the following questions with the individual in mind. When will you need a caregiver in the home? What duties will the caregiver be required to perform? And, most importantly, what sort of specialized care will the patient need (2)? Now, it's your turn to ask the agency a few questions, such as:
- How long has the senior homecare agency been providing homecare services?
- What is the agency's screening process? Are references and criminal background checks required for each caregiver?
- How are emergencies handled by the caregiver during and after working hours?
- What is the supervision situation for caregivers in a home?
- What is the agency's policy on payroll and other applicable taxes for its employees?
After you find a senior care provider but prior to hiring the individual, ask to meet with him or her for a brief introduction. At this point, you can interact with the caregiver to see if he or she would be a good fit (3).
Hiring Privately Requires a Level of Commitment
If you decide not to go through a full-service agency (or benefit from the basic screening method from a referral agency), you now have quite a few responsibilities on your plate in order to find a senior care provider that will prove reliable. You will have to conduct an interview, a criminal history background check, an elder abuse and sex offenders registry check, a reference check (request a minimum of three), a motor vehicle record check, communicable disease screening (it's recommended that caregivers receive a Hepatitis B vaccine prior to employment), as well as verify documentation of the caregiver's certification (4).
Ideally, once you find a senior care provider you're happy with, you should provide the newly-hired caregiver with a detailed job description outlining job title, purpose, duties and responsibilities, necessary qualifications of caregivers, Americans with Disabilities job specifications, supervision of caregiver designation, and initial training requirements (5). Have the caregiver sign and date this document and keep a file saved in a safe place. All caregivers in a home should receive proper training, with you demonstrating the details of each responsibility as well as tasks that must be carried out on a daily basis. Usually, not all family members or friends will be able to demonstrate all the necessary senior homecare requirements. Often, it is this inability to carry out some required tasks that prompt a family member to find a senior care provider and hire a professional. Ensuring that the family member or friend is the point-person needs to be done from the start, and what the family member or friend doesn't know the caregiver should. In the case of an agency hire, however, the supervisor will be able to determine what exactly the care recipient needs and who can help. At all points, the family member or friend needs to be in the loop and needs to coordinate with the senior homecare agency and/or caregiver on a regular basis.
Furthermore, do not neglect training on OSHA regulations for tasks such as rigorous hand washing, dealing with human waste, and personal hygiene as well as providing supplies in order to comply fully with these precautionary cleanliness measures (6). Choosing to find a senior care provider on your own comes with many responsibilities, but you ultimately have more control in the decision.
Paying for the High Cost of Senior Homecare
One of the major issues concerning senior homecare is affordability. Searching and interviewing to find a senior care provider or agency (regardless of the channel you use) is a costly expenditure. With the annual amount of senior homecare costing an average of $52,560 (7), it's no wonder that few can afford this luxury. While homecare is most frequently a private pay situation, there are options, such as paying with long-term care insurance policies or even finding a trusted family member or friend to watch over the elderly individual. Make sure you research your senior homecare options fully before making any decisions though. Become more informed, be proactive, and, above all, be firm and prepared when making decisions to find a senior care provider. This way you'll ensure that you've made the best choice!
Aloe Vera: Anti-Aging Miracle!
For eons now, man has been in constant search for those objects or potions that can slow (if only stop!) the onslaught of advancing age. Well, it’s clear that we cannot really prevent the lines time draws on us; but if we take care of our body we can effectively postpone a few obvious signs (like wrinkles) for a few years. Interestingly enough, most if not all anti-aging potions have been created or found in nature. One such anti-aging product is prepared from the leaf extract of a plant called Aloe Vera.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera or Aloe barbadensis is a type of cactus whose anti-aging use has been known for thousands of years. The earliest references to Aloe Vera have been found on papyrus rolls from 1500 B.C! It appears to have been widely used in ancient Java, India, Egypt and Greece. It was well known that the gel in the thick Aloe Vera leaf had healing properties; we now know that it is chock-full of goodies like amino acids, enzymes, and polysaccharides.
The regenerative qualities of Aloe Vera make it a treatment in great demand for premature aging of skin, healing of wounds, burns, sunburns, eczema, hair loss, dandruff and more. Aloe Vera has some excellent moisturizing ingredients: consisting of 96% water and 4% amino acids, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, vitamins A, C, and E. Aloe Vera also contains anti-oxidants, has anti-microbial and anti-viral properties, zinc and seven superoxide dismutases that are good for the skin. Quite a list for a humble cactus!
There are supposedly about 400 species of Aloe, ranging in color from grey to bright green. However, it is Aloe Vera that is revered for its medicinal properties. Interestingly, the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry has only recently discovered the business potential of this plant. You’ll find it is becoming increasingly common as a health food and beverage as well. Aloe Vera works best as an anti-aging treatment if coupled with a set of activities like exercise and a healthy diet. Some experts argue that if Aloe Vera is part of your anti-aging strategy from the mid-thirties, it can actually prevent the appearance of wrinkles. It follows that your need for Botox, Restylane, Juvederm and Thermage treatments will also be pushed back – a good thing, for sure.
Aloe Vera and Aging Skin
As the skin ages, it thins and wrinkles. Combined with the appearance of creases, age spots and furrows, you have all the classic problems that our favorite stars battle against for years. Anti-aging components of Aloe Vera have been found to reverse this degeneration of the skin by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. Studies show that internally consumed Aloe Vera improves the skin's ability to hydrate itself; it is therefore an active skin conditioning agent. Externally applied, it is a natural skin exfoliant, with the ability to penetrate into the skin and transport healthy substances through it. Not surprisingly, Aloe Vera is currently a vital essential ingredient for the cosmetics industry, being utilized in over 95% of dermatologically valuable extracts manufactured worldwide.
Easy to Care For…
Aloe Vera is an easy plant to care for and can comfortably be grown in indoor pots. Here are some recipes you can use as homemade skin treatments:
Recipe #1: Facial Cleanser
To prepare a facial cleanser, peel one large Aloe Vera leaf (removing the thin light green covering); add one peeled slice of papaya, a teaspoon of honey and yogurt and blend in a food processor. The mixture is to be applied to the face in a gentle circular motion. Let it soak into the skin for 15-20 minutes; wash it off with lukewarm water.
Recipe #2: Healing and Soothing
For healing and soothing sensitive or dry skin, mix three tablespoons of Aloe Vera juice with a drop of Helycrisum oil and apply evenly on the face and neck. When the mask has soaked into the skin and dried, wash off with lukewarm water.
Watch What You Buy
Aloe Vera is available in gels, sprays, lotions, liquids, creams, health drinks and even in the form of capsules. Several Aloe Vera beauty products have recently flooded the market, these claim to contain anti-oxidants and collagen, and offer an anti-aging treatment, while these cannot be said to be harmful in any way, it would still be prudent to read through the ‘contents’ or better still, consult a physician before purchase.
So you think you are getting old....NOT!
“Carrying a Walking Cane…..Do I look Old?”
Well, the fact is we all grow older each day. But do we have to look “old” just because we may not have quite the strength or mobility as younger days? I think not….especially when it comes to needing a little bit of mobility assistance. Walking Canes have been around since the beginning of time. The walking stick or "cane" has long held a place in man's history, its roots leading back to the "big stick" wielded by prehistoric man as a weapon of both self-defense and aggression. Ancient Egyptians and Greeks represented their rulers and gods carrying staffs which symbolized authority. These staffs became the scepters of kings during the Middle Ages.
The walking cane as an “accessory to dress” saw its origins in the 11th century in what is now France. Women there carried slender sticks made of apple wood. It was not until the end of the 15th century, however, that the walking cane was adopted as a general accessory to dress, this time as a masculine rather than feminine fashion.
During the late 17th century, walking canes usually were trimmed with ribbons at the handle. A loop of ribbon was slipped over the wrist for ease in carrying similar to our current wrist straps. The distinction between walking sticks and canes is drawn by materials. Sticks were made of ivory, whalebone, ebony and various valuable woods. Canes were made of Malacca (rattan), bamboo and other types of sturdy reed plants. As the Century’s slipped by, styles continued to change. In addition to the usual woods, we are now using many unique exotic woods, such as Wenge, Zebrano, Afromosia, etc. coupled with acrylic handles that make up the beautiful designs and prints for today’s walking cane fashion look.
Modern walking canes are designed for specific needs. Lighter canes are used for mobility and stability, while the heavy duty canes are used for more weight bearing. Hemiplegic and balance impaired persons use the walking cane to give them a better sense of the vertical position, thereby lessening vertigo. Without the stick, it is easy to walk at an angle, and perhaps not move in a straight line. The stick is held in the stronger hand.
Muscle weakened persons (with reduced strength or nerve action) need a stronger weight-bearing stick to take some of the load normally used by the afflicted leg. Walking Canes are generally used in the hand opposite the injury or weakness. This may appear counter-intuitive, but this allows the cane to be used for stability in a way that lets the user shift much of their weight onto the cane and away from their weaker side as they walk.
So just because your Doctor says you need a walking cane, try to think of it as a “fashion accessory.” When you carry a unique cane, you will be surprised how many people will stop you and ask, “where did you get it?” The reason for their question is the fact there are so very few retail stores that carry high-fashion walking canes. Most medical supply stores offer only the medicinal looking aluminum canes, which are not very attractive.
The next time you need a little “boost” in the mobility assistance department, why not carry a “Mad Hatter” or a “Rapper”…..carrying a walking cane “does not mean looking old” but rather you are with today’s styles!
So go ahead! Look smart while walking. Visit www.thewalkingcanestore.com
to see hundreds of stylish walking canes with low prices. And always, “Walk with Style!”
Why Herbal For Reversing Age
In The Beginning…
Before there were petrochemicals and prescription drugs, there were herbal skin care remedies. Today, many people have returned to herbal treatment for the skin because it is safer and likely to be better than drugs or popular lotions. You just have to use a little bit of caution.
Not All Herbals Are Created Equally
Just because a product is advertised or sold under the heading of herbal skin care does not necessarily mean all the ingredients are safe. Concentrated plant fragrances will cause allergic reactions just like their chemical counterparts. The best advice is to shop for an herbal treatment for the skin that is free of added fragrance. Natural ingredients have a light neutral scent that is safe and non-irritating.
Scan the list of ingredients for essential oils, lavender, rosewater, and linalool. Those are the most common natural fragrances. They are also common allergens. So if you see them listed, buy something else.
One Very Safe Herbal Is Wakame Kelp
There are many things a safe herbal treatment for the skin can do. For example, Wakame kelp, a kind of sea algae, provides numerous health benefits that are relative to the skin. It is an effective moisturizer, has antioxidant activity, and is proven to improve your skin's elasticity.
The antioxidants in Wakame are important to delay and counter the effects of aging. UV rays from the sun, environmental pollutants, and even the air you breathe are doing damage to your cells on a daily basis. When you were young, your natural cell rejuvenation process replaced cells that were damaged very quickly. The process slows down with age and you begin to see wrinkles and a loss of firmness.
Kelp is also a known super food. Its vitamin and mineral content is higher than most any other vegetable. It was first used as a beauty treatment in Japan. In traditional Asian medicine, it was used as herbal skin care for excessive dryness, injuries, and a variety of other conditions.
Wakame kelp was the favored Japanese herbal treatment for the skin because it grew in sacred undersea forests in the Sea of Japan. In other areas of the world, traditional healers had different herbal skin care remedies dependent on what was available near their homes.
Ancient Remedies Still Work The Best
One company has taken many of the most effective ancient remedies and combined them into a line of skincare products that simply cannot be beaten. These products support the skin's natural cell rejuvenation processes, increases firmness, reduces wrinkles, and are beneficial for relieving conditions ranging from acne to psoriasis.
The products can be used regardless of whether your face is dry, oily, or a combination of the two. You see, the only reason cosmetic companies promote the idea of skin types is so they can continue to use cheap petrochemicals. Petroleum based oils cause greasiness. Petroleum based alcohols cause excessive dryness.
An herbal treatment for the skin, if properly formulated, will moisturize without causing greasiness and help to balance your skin's natural oil production. There is so much more to consider beyond the scope of this article, but looking for herbal skin care products that are free of petrochemicals, artificial preservatives, and added fragrances is a good start.
Free Radicals: Growing Old One Cell At A Time
The popularity of antioxidant-based supplements has ballooned over the last few years. We see advertisements for pills, juices and bars that tout claims ranging from "stop the aging process" to "prevent cancer". And while, in selected products, there is an element of truth to these claims, it's critical to understand the role antioxidants play in our body to evaluate these supplements appropriately. It's helpful to have a base knowledge of the key body processes that are involved. Antioxidants, as the name would imply, counter oxidation.
Oxidation is a chemical reaction that results in electrons being transferred from a substance to an oxidation agent. Common oxidation agents include halogens (iodine, etc), peroxide, ozone and bleach. Oxidation is a common process and is manifested in the outside world in processes such as explosions and metal corrosion. Oxidation is also a routine process inside our bodies and, although destructive, is chemically critical to sustain life.
The oxidation process results in the production of free radicals, which are highly reactive molecules containing unpaired electrons. These unstable molecules, like a magnet pulling pins from a pile, will start chain reactions that result in damage to cell membranes throughout our body.
This cellular damage can be visibly observed from the accelerated free radical production that a sunburn can cause (leading to skin damage), or even in skin wrinkling during the normal course of aging.
Free radicals literally scavenge your body grabbing electrons and damaging cells, proteins, and, most critical, DNA. This same oxidative process also causes peeled apples to turn brown, oils to degrade and become rancid and iron to corrode into rust.
Due to ongoing biochemical processes in the body, free radicals are a normal part of our system. A healthy immune system is typically able to control the existence of free radicals and minimize their ability to damage cells. And, in fact, not all free radicals are harmful. For example, our immune system will manufacture critical free radicals to manage and destroy virus and bacteria. Other free radicals produce vital hormones. Day to day bodily functions depend on certain types of free radicals. But even the benefits of free radicals rely on their destructive capabilities, and if not controlled, they will ravage the body inside and out.
Antioxidants are organic compounds capable of counteracting the damaging effects of oxidation in animal tissue. They interact with free radicals and interrupt the chain reaction before vital molecules are damaged. The primary antioxidants are vitamin E, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. There are a three potential source is of antioxidants: natural production by the body, certain food types, and nutritional supplements.
A healthy body is unable to produce sufficient quantities of antioxidants on its own.
Studies have also shown that required levels of antioxidants are not supplied from food intake. Consequently, it is important for most individuals, especially as we advance in age, to supplement their diet with substances containing abundant levels of antioxidants.
The body, a healthy diet, and selected supplementation will work together to ward off the destructive effects of free radicals that can lead to wrinkled skin, heart disease, cancer and other disorders.
Latest Report On Anti Wrinkle Eye Cream
It's unbelievable how many people have a bad experience when comparing anti wrinkle eye cream. While reading reviews, I was shocked. But, I do find it understandable. Anti wrinkle eye cream is tricky, because unless you know what ingredients to look for, you'll have a hard time finding the best cream.
Following is my latest report on safe, essential, and effective ingredients for combating those eye wrinkles.
Homeo Age
What is it?
Homeo Age is an extract from Canadian brown algae. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and reduces wrinkles.
Why is it important?
Homeo Age is important because it has anti aging properties specific for skin around your eyes. It is very good at reversing the aging process because it stimulates cellular regeneration at the molecular level.
Nano Lipobelle
What is it?
Nano Lipobelle is a form of CoQ10. CoQ10 is a vitamin like substance that reduces wrinkles, protects from UV rays, provides skin with antioxidants, and enhances cell activity.
Why is it important?
Many forms of CoQ10 contain molecules too large to penetrate your skin. Nano Lipobelle contains CoQ10 particles broken down to microscopic size for deep, effective skin penetration. The reason Nano Lipobelle becomes so effective at this level is because with proper penetration it will stimulate collagen and elastin production to reduce wrinkles. It will also counteract free radical damage and allow the skin to regenerate.
Natural Vitamin E
What is it?
Natural vitamin E is the real deal. I say that because there is also a synthetic version that is much less effective. Natural vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and reduces effects of aging, including wrinkles and age spots.
Why is it important?
Many factors contribute to increased free radical production such as UV radiation, diet, and pollution. Natural vitamin E antioxidants are potent and have been shown to reduce risk of skin cancer by counteracting free radical damage.
Cynergy TK
What is it?
Cynergy TK is the latest natural miracle ingredient in anti aging skin care. It is a special combination of proteins, or keratin, similar to those in your skin. It creates potent skin rejuvenation processes such as wrinkle reduction, stimulation of collagen and elastin production, firmness and elasticity, eliminates inflammation and brown spots, and is a powerful antioxidant.
Why is it important?
Many common skin care products contain types of keratin that are mostly unusable by your skin. Cynergy TK is created using a method that keeps the keratin fully usable. When this form of keratin is effectively absorbed, you will begin to grow new healthy skin cells.
Cynergy TK also contains enzymatic antioxidants. Each molecule of enzymatic antioxidants conquer millions of free radicals at a time, whereas, regular antioxidants can only conquer one free radical at a time.
Now, to everything there is a polarity. So, on the flip side, I want to quickly share with you a few ingredients to avoid.
A Quick Word About Safety
When you compare anti wrinkle eye cream, look for products that are free of artificial preservatives, fragrances, and colors. Gels and creams meant for use around your eyes should be free of these common allergens and irritants. They easily damage the skin around your eyes, and chemical absorption that close to your delicate eyes is a bad idea.
The best anti wrinkle eye cream will be preserved using natural vitamin E, which as mentioned, also provides the added benefit of repairing free radical damage. Artificial fragrance and color are simply damaging to your skin and overall health, and are unnecessary to boot. If ingredients are natural, the product will have a natural pleasant aroma.
There you have it, some key ingredients to look for when searching for the best anti wrinkle eye creams. Hopefully this report will help you make informed choices when comparing anti wrinkle eye cream.
Important Tip About Anti Wrinkle Eye Creams
Are you in the market for anti wrinkle eye cream? Maybe you already use it? Either way, hear me out on this and let me give you some useful advice before you buy.
Most Anti Wrinkle Eye Creams Are Unsafe
Some creams are downright unsafe for your skin and health. So, you really must know what you are buying before you purchase. Otherwise, you are wasting your money, and more importantly, risking your health.
For the last 10 to 15 years, mainstream theory has been sun-damage was responsible for 90% of all signs of aging. So now, practically every anti wrinkle eye cream on the market contains sunscreen and a low SPF rating.
Sounds great, but it's not necessarily so. Using anti wrinkle eye cream with sunscreen might prevent additional sun damage, but it certainly won't do anything to repair damage already done. And it comes with a nasty consequence.
Researchers have shown some sun-screening compounds included in anti wrinkle eye creams increase the number of free radical molecules within your cells. Free radical molecules perform some necessary functions in your cells. But, when they get frenzied, they damage your skin-cells and DNA strands. This damage means your cell can become a cancer cell.
For that reason, oxybenzone and benzophenone (two sun screen ingredients commonly found in anti wrinkle eye cream) are now considered probable human carcinogens.
But, UV radiation from the sun also increases free radical production and activity. That's why doctors advise that overexposure to the sun leads to skin cancer in later life.
In these cases, there is nothing preventing free radicals from causing damage and potentially creating cancer cells.
So, what are you supposed to do if the sun and sunscreen in your anti wrinkle eye cream both cause increased free radical production?
Use Anti Wrinkle Eye Cream That Contains Effective Antioxidants
This will help you repair AND maintain a healthy level of free radicals.
The current theory about the cause of wrinkles and other signs of aging revolves around your antioxidant and free radical balance. The sun and sunscreen cause damage when the balance is off. And dermatologists have found that older skin cells contain more free radicals, and fewer antioxidants.
For example, with bags, tiny capillaries beneath your eyes become damaged and unhealthy with age. Fluid transport slows, and waste products within the fluid cause dark circles. How do you correct these issues? That's where antioxidants come in.
Which Antioxidants Are Essential To Correct These Issues?
The amazing thing about antioxidants is they repair damage and maintain healthy balance between radicals and antioxidants.
For sun damage and sunscreen damage, Jojoba oil is essential. Jojoba oil contains antioxidants found in vitamin E that disarm free radicals.
For capillary health, vitamin P is an antioxidant known to promote and improve fluid transfer.
Now that you know a little more about selecting a safe effective anti wrinkle eye cream, I'm sure you'll be better satisfied with your results.
Use an anti wrinkle eye cream that contains Jojoba oil and vitamin P. They are powerful effective antioxidants that reduce signs of aging.
Home Dermabrasion Kits -- Do They Really Work?
Home dermabrasion kits are a great way to resurface the top layer of your skin. It helps to reduce mild acne, scars, clogged or enlarged pores, age spots, fine lines and dull skin.
These kits are also a good way to supplement a professional microdermabrasion session or to improve and get more dramatic results from facial peels and scrubs – like my famous baking soda/sugar scrub recipe that listed on my website.
The best part of dermabrasion kits is they don’t require any down time. You can rejuvenate your skin tonight and be ready to go out tomorrow.
However, one of the questions I get asked often is whether a home dermabrasion kit is as effective as a professional microdermabrasion session.
Well, I’ve had professional microdermabrasion and it’s great. My skin never looked better, but……..
The results don’t last long and it was much too expensive to keep it up. So, I’ve investigated several home dermabrasion kits to find one that worked just as well.
I can tell you right now, the inexpensive drug store brands did nothing special. The baking soda/sugar scrubs and glycolic/salicylic acid peels provided better, smoother skin.
I didn’t want to spend a lot of money but was desperate to find something that was close to a professional microdermabrasion.
You’d be surprised as to how effective the home dermabrasion kits have gotten over the last few years. Some of the system contains medical grade corundum crystals to exfoliate and deep clean and attachments so you can exfoliate different parts of your body like the Decollete area and even your feet.
Compare the Costs
Home dermabrasion kits can vary from $70.00 to $200.00 – at least the good ones do…..
But when you compared the cost to a professional microdermabrasion, which costs about $100.00 to $200.00 per session – these home dermabrasion kits costs about $2.00 per session.
One company, DeramNew makes a dermabrasion kit that specializes in people with melanin problems – meaning they suffer from hyperpigmentation ……..uneven skin tone, blotches, and brown spots.
Recently, I’ve come across a home dermabrasion kit that uses the exact same machine my dermatologist uses and it even comes with the exact same medical grade crystals and vacuum technology that the professional machines use.
Great Technology
It’s a real money saver to be able to get professional dermabrasion results in your own home for just few dollars per session. I’ve had microdermabrasion and was addicted to the feeling and the way my skin looked.
So, I set out to investigate and find the best of the best in home dermabrasion kits and share this information with you on my site.
Where Do We Begin The Quest For Youth?
Public obsession with aging gracefully or rather aging without exhibiting any signs of aging has driven the market for anti-aging skin care products. There are plenty of skin creams and lotions screaming for your attention and all with claims of getting back youthful skin or at the most preserving it as it is.
What about maintaing the beautiful skin that you have. Replenishing the skin to its moe youthful appearance?.
But then how do you choose the best products for you? Something that will actually stand up to all the claims and really work to reduce aging signs intrinsically! Do not get carried away by tempting marketing messages and showy endorsements. Instead analyze all the pros and cons and make a wise choice.
Here are some tips to do the same:
Do buy skin care where you buy shoes….
Cost of a product is not an indication of its quality. You may step up to a departmentstore counter and pay more then what you would pay for medical grade skin care. Often times this is a matter of marketiking vs. science.
Go to your dermatologists or plastic surgeon to learn about skin care. They are shown the products with good science to back up results.
Attractive Marketing
Just because a particular product comes in sassy packaging and is endorsed by a beautiful superstar doesn’t mean that it will be as effective for you as it claims to be. Most companies invest more on advertising than on the products themselves. Learn to see beyond the marketing ploys and judge if the product is really worth it or not. Instead of being taken away by the words of the ad campaign, do some research at your end. For example, browse through the internet, look at the reviews on blogs and forums and make a sane choice.
Avoid Products that contain Collagen
We all know that aging skin is a cause of breakdown in the collagen production of the body. However, that does not mean that topical supply of collagen molecules can balance the receding levels underneath. Many anti aging skin care products claim to contain collagen molecules that help replace lost collagen within the skin cells. But collagen molecules are themselves too large to penetrate the skin surface and can only disguise wrinkles and facial lines. The skin quality has no effect whatsoever.
Choose products that aim to stimulate your body to produce collagen, this is a much more grounded claim. You can try using iS Clinical Youth Complex that boosts the production of collagen and elastin fibers within the skin cells and help diminish wrinkles and facial lines in addition to other recommended products. .
Enhance the Effectiveness of Anti Aging Skin Care Products
Your skin care products will perform more efficiently if you are an active participant, The following are some suggestions….
• Keep your skin clean. Wash you face twice a day, once in the morning and once at night before going to bed. Make sure to remove all the make-up before you sleep.
• Don’t smoke or consume alcohol excessively as they contribute to skin damage. Also cut down on your caffeine intake.
• Eat a balanced diet that includes lots of fresh fruits and green vegetables. Drink plenty of water and keep your body hydrated.
• Use anti aging products as directed by your physician or skin care provider. Most products do not show effective results because you fail to use them according to recommended use..
How This Anti Aging Skin Cream Naturally Stimulates Collagen Growth
If you already show signs of wrinkles and aging, read this article. If you are not yet showing signs of wrinkles and aging, read this article. Anti aging skin care should be of primary interest to everyone young and old. Those fine lines and wrinkles are going to appear or get worse at some point, so you might as well start using a good antiaging skin cream as soon as possible. Did I mention this goes for men and women alike? Well, it does. So, let me tell you what I've learned.
There are plenty of things you want to avoid in order to keep your skin looking its best. Here are a few. Spending too much time in the sun can lead to dry skin and, eventually, it also leads to uneven pigmentation. If you smoke, you will develop more lines around the mouth and the eyes. Starting an anti aging skin care routine now could help lessen the severity.
Oxygen is great! Personally, I love it. However, through a process called oxidation, it will do a fair amount of damage to your skin cells, as well as throughout your body. If you're like me, you've tried some anti aging creams that claim to repair the damage. If you're like me, you may have also tried taking in antioxidants as a way of to stave off the damage and repair the cells. And if you're like me, you probably didn't experience much success. Luckily, one company has recently developed an antiaging skin cream that penetrates deep into the pores and is rich in the right kind of antioxidants.
I became very interested in this New Zealand based company for several reasons. First, they have better cosmetic regulation rules than the United States; which means you get what they say you are getting. Second, they discovered that by creating an emulsified form of Coenzyme Q 10, a type of antioxidant, they could break the particles down to microscopic size which allows for deeper penetration. Third, this compound has also proven to give significant protection against UV-A rays.
This is a very significant breakthrough in anti aging skin care. You are constantly being exposed to oxygen and damaging UV rays from the sun. You can cover most of your body to provide a small measure of protection from the elements, but your face is almost always exposed.
Here are some more reasons I am interested in this company. Many manufacturers of antiaging skin cream put collagen directly into their product. However, topical application of collagen is a useless practice. Absorbing collagen through the skin will do nothing for you. The only thing that works really well is collagen re-growth. This company has developed a compound which stimulates the natural production and re-growth of collagen and elastin.
I love when researchers are dedicated to finding answers in nature. Listen to this. The research and development team has discovered that a naturally occurring protein in your body is responsible for collagen growth. They have also learned that a form of that same protein can be derived from the wool of native New Zealand sheep. In that form, the protein can be easily absorbed through the pores of your skin and, thus, stimulate the natural production and growth of collagen.
Being that the sheep are native to New Zealand, the homelanders quickly patented the formula. That means you won't find this antiaging skin cream on any cosmetics shelf anywhere in the world. I consider that a good thing and here's why.
The products are purchased directly from the company. That's a good thing because when you cut out the middle man, you cut out the mark up. It's great that they also happen to be one of the leading health supplement companies in the world.
So there you have it. If you show signs of wrinkles and aging, or simply want to avoid the experience, start using a good anti aging skin care cream now. Help your skin to stimulate and produce collagen at a healthy beautiful level once again and finally begin to look younger.
Learn 4 Ways to Find Natural Anti Aging Skin Care Products
Lately, it seems everyone is searching the market for the best anti aging natural skin care products. I know I have been, and it is because I am tired of chemically induced cures that leave my skin feeling raw, burnt, sensitive, or depleted of natural oils and moisture.
Buying foods that are all natural is certainly gaining popularity with tremendous speed. Perhaps the popularity is due to recognition that natural foods have endless benefits, and therefore, are definitely better for your body. The desire for natural products, other than food, is spilling over into all areas of our lives. Luckily, some manufacturers are listening. Personally, I couldn't be happier. I've been eating natural foods for most my life, but finding natural health and beauty products has been much more of a challenge.
Before the demand for natural anti aging skin care products, I saw many manufacturers claim to have the best anti aging skin care products available. I tried the products that state that; because certainly, if they can state that, then it must be true. Otherwise, who would permit them to make such a claim publicly? Frustrated and confused, they were not the best. In fact, they didn't help at all. I may have even looked older after all that chemical damage! It's hard to find good anti aging skin care products, and finding products that are natural is even harder, but no longer impossible. I'll tell you how.
First, many countries have stringent policies regarding what can be labeled as anti aging natural skin care products. Unfortunately, the United States is not among them. In the United States, a company can openly claim to have the finest anti aging natural skin care products on the market, even if they don't. They can claim their products are made from only the purest of nature's ingredients, when in fact; the products are filled with harsh chemicals and abrasives. This is because the agency overseeing the cosmetics industry is the Federal Trade Commission and not the Food and Drug Administration, as many may think. The FDA does not oversee anti aging skin care products because those products are used topically on the body and not intended for internal use.
Perhaps we would benefit more if the FDA did in fact regulate cosmetics and topical products, because the FDA is a largely proactive organization. The FTC is embarrassingly reactive. Here is what I mean. It is possible for a manufacturer to be brought up on charges due to deceptive and false labeling. The company can be charged for claiming they have the best anti aging skin care products or for claiming they have all natural skin care products, when the fact is their products have not been proven to be the best, or contain ingredients that are not natural or can harm the consumer. However, the FTC will not investigate a company until a serious incident or complaint comes before them. Therefore, the FTC acts more like a passive overseer than an actual regulator of the skin care product industry.
Second, when shopping for anti aging natural skin care products, you should always be sure to read the label and thoroughly understand what it is you are buying. Many products out there contain harsh substances or dangerous chemicals, even if they claim to be natural. Particularly when used on your face, those substances or chemicals will be absorbed into your pores and will enter directly into your bloodstream. Those manufacturers don't want you to read the label. They want you to believe their claim that they have the best anti aging natural skin care products available. They don't want you to make an educated purchase, they simply want you to purchase.
That's not said to frighten you, but simply to make you more acutely aware of the need to read and understand what is in the product. For every downside, there is an upside. There are companies that do produce the best anti aging skin care products, and they are making safe, truly natural formulas. Take care to educate yourself and avoid companies using deceitful methods to encourage you to buy.
Third, the best way to find anti aging natural skin care products is not from advertisements or television, but through personal research. Read, learn, and educate yourself. Search for the answers you are looking for. The payoff is huge and you will never regret it.
Lastly, many of the best anti aging skin care products are not sold here in the U.S. They are developed overseas and can be purchased directly from the manufacturer. There is an excellent benefit from buying directly. It guarantees you the best price since there is no retail mark-up.
So, when looking for anti aging natural skin care products, first remember the United States does not have the best regulation regarding company claims. Second, read the label to see what ingredients are included and if they are in fact natural. Third, do some personal research. Make sure you know what you are getting. And last, don't limit yourself to products produced in the U.S. Look beyond the borders. There are some really great and honest foreign companies doing good work to provide consumers with upstanding products.
I hope this information has been helpful and shortens your search to finding anti aging natural skin care products that will work for you.
I want to tell you that finding anti aging skin care products does not have to be overwhelming or scary. Through my searches, I have found a way to filter out the products I do not want.
There are so many products out there and it's hard to find the ones that are effective, and most importantly, safe for your skin. I know because I am always trying to find them. I'm excited though because in light of recent breakthroughs in medicine and technology alike, I can see we are closer than ever to really constructing that fountain of youth, or at least coming much closer to creating effective anti aging skin care products.
The key is understanding which ingredients create the desired effect. With a greater understanding of chemical composition and natural aids, technology has effectively assembled an arsenal of solutions to those horrid beauty obstacles we call wrinkles. In this article, I will share with you several ingredients that will enable you to understand for yourself the many benefits a good and healthy anti aging skin care product can offer.
Instead of cosmetics, the new anti aging skin care products are more like nutritional substances. They give your body what it needs to build new collagen fibers, create new elastin, and grow new skin-cells.
First, you need to understand that your pores will absorb nearly anything that you rub into them. Second, understand that means the substance will eventually get into your bloodstream. So, if a skin care product contains something that is hazardous when ingested, you should not put it on your face or body.
Contrary to popular belief, preservatives are not necessary. Preservatives are only necessary when there is something lacking in the manufacturing process. When a skin care product is properly manufactured, there is no need to add preservatives, known as parabens.
If an ingredient falls under the category of "fragrance", it too should be avoided. There are over 4000 different synthetic chemicals that are used for scenting purposes and none of them belong in your skin care products or in your bloodstream. Sometimes the use of fragrance is misused. For example, mineral oils can go rancid if not properly manufactured and adding a scent is one way many attempt to hide that rancid odor.
It has been known for a long time that in order to repair cells and replace cells, your skin needs proteins, water, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Fortunately, recent discoveries have identified additional items within those categories that your skin needs to repair and replace cells. The first of these is Functional Keratin. An awesome anti aging skin care product line from New Zealand makes use of it; although, they call it Cynergy TK.
Keratin is one of the proteins needed to grow new cells and tissues. Some skin care products have tried to provide it in the past, but the form they used was not compatible with the human protein. Functional Keratin is so close to your own natural protein that your body cannot tell the difference.
Another ingredient that receives a lot of attention is Manuka honey. It was evaluated as in ingredient because of ancient folklore concerning its amazing health benefits. It turns out that the old stories were right. Manuka honey has antibacterial and antiseptic properties that do a great job at healing minor injuries. Manuka honey seems like a great choice for combating acne and for including in men's skin care products. Acne is frustrating and daily shaving can do so much damage and aging to your face.
Hyaluronic acid is another beneficial protein to include in an anti aging skin care product. Don't let the word "acid" in the name scare you. It is not acid and will not burn your face off. Hyaluronic acid is a protein present in your cells that acts to cushion and lubricate body tissue. It also acts like glue to hold collagen and elastin fibers together.
I love the useful anti aging discovery regarding Wakame. Wakame is a type of Japanese sea algae. Wakame prevents protein from breaking down during enzymatic processes. When the breakdown is prevented, proteins will start to naturally rise to levels similar to much younger people.
Nano-lipobelle is the first antioxidant designed particularly for protection and healing of the face and skin-layers. Oxygen actually corrodes things over time. Exposure to air and sun increases the production of free radicals which damage and mutate cells, eventually leading to cancer.
An anti aging skin care product that contains nano-lipobelle not only prevents damage by destroying free radicals, but also corrects some of the damage done over time.
So, when looking for a line of anti aging skin care products, look for paraben-free, fragrance-free products. Look for the product to include functional keratin or Cynergy TK, manuka honey, hyaluronic acid, wakame, and nano-lipobelle.
I hope this information makes your search for anti aging skin care products less daunting. It is by no means a complete list, but it should help you get started.
3 Simples Skin Steps For Those Over 40 Years Old
I don't know about you, but I hate spending hours and money -- trying six different creams, potions and lotions for my face.
I want simple, yet effective skin care regime for wrinkle free skin. Well, I found it! I'm almost 50 years old and people guess me to still be in my late thirties!
Here are my 3 Simple Steps
1. Feed Your skin - Build More Collagen
I use a strong copper peptide cream. It doesn't smell pretty, it doesn't come in a fancy expensive bottle or jar, and it's blue - but once you rub it into the skin the color disappears - but this is some serious skin care stuff!! Probably the best anti aging cream on the market.
Clinical data on anti aging research shows Copper Peptides to be effective at reversing skin aging on human skin. Copper Peptides also can:
Tightening loose skin
Improving skin elasticity
Improving skin firmness
Reducing fine lines and depth of wrinkles
2. Exfoliate - Get Rid of Old Dead Skin to Make Way For New Collagen
Lactic Acid and Salicylic Acid are exfoliating agents used for facial peels. These natural agents - derived from sugar found in milk and fruits -- offer a number of benefits to aging skin such as:
reducing enlarged pores
eliminating fine lines
exfoliating dead skin cells
If you're over 40, the lactic acid should be your best friend because as we age our skin gets dry, dull, and discolored. All those years of sun bathing is now starting to show up on your face (sigh!)
This hydrating lotion not only helps remove sun spots and discoloration, but hydrates and gives you skin a moist smooth glow. The salicylic acid is great for closing up large pores. I use both a few times a week and love them.
Other benefits include: increase collage production, increase moisture binding properties, and help dissolve and remove stretch marks and other skin lesions.
3. Moisturize, heal and protect - with Emu Oil
When you apply a moisturizer are you really moisturizing or just covering your face with unnatural greases and waxes.
Unfortunately, most moisturizers are full of chemicals; however, emu oi is a natural moisturizer -- with a similar composition to human skin oils. Not only can it protecting your skin from water loss and help to prevent wrinkles, it can also heal inflamed and damaged skin.
The Australian Aborigines have used this and only this to heal and protect their skin for hundreds of years. That says a lot considering how harsh the sun is in Australia.
Emu Oil works for all skin types and won't aggravate specific skin problems like, dry itchy skin, clogged pores or whiteheads. It's has healing properties that especially helpful for burns, eczema and psoriasis.
I use it every day and every time I wash my face.
Why Do Some Women Age Faster Than Others? Could It Be Their Estrogen?
Can Estrogen Prevent Wrinkles?
Did you know that besides using the best wrinkle creams money can buy, for women of a certain age, estrogen or natural plant based hormones can also be used in the war against wrinkles?
Menopause or Premenopause starts with a decline in hormones which also causes a decline in:
-skin moisture
-collagen production
-elastin production
All of this leaves us with wrinkled, thin, dry itchy skin. Not fair is it?
But Don't Despair - There May Be Hope After All
When plant based estrogens - called phytoestrogens - breakdown in the body they convert to estriol. Although estriol is the weaker of three main estrogens produced in the body, it is an important anti aging skin cream for women experiencing a decline in estrogen production.
Studies have shown that a drop in hormone production causes elastin and collage and production to drop - leaving us with wrinkly, sagging skin.
The Journal of International Menopausal Society has stated that estrogen decline has a profound effect on skin and found that when postmenopausal women received estrogen treatment - they had an increase in collagen, elasticity, and dermal thickness.
Other studies found that in women who took estrogen replacement, the chance of having dry wrinkled skin was 30% less, than those who did not. They also took in to account life style habits, such as smoking and sun expose, adjusted for these two factors, and still found the benefits of estrogen on skin health were significant.
So What Can You Do?
Try Natural Estrogen Creams
While hormone replacement therapy may not be for everyone, there are safe alternatives you can try to help relieve or prevent menopausal skin deterioration. You can try over-the-counter natural estrogen (estriol) creams containing plant compounds with phytoestrogenic activity.
Dr. John Lee, a pioneer and international authority in the use of natural estrogen and progesterone creams for natural hormone balance. He found that phytoestrogen creams applied to the skin can help reverse wrinkling and should be considered an important anti aging skin care treatment. He also found that estriol cream can be helpful for acne and acne scars.
These creams can be found anywhere in health food stores or the internet. My favorite is a brand called Emerita. They've been around long before I ever needed hormones - I found out about them while working at a health food store and this brand was the favorite among pre and menopausal women.
Try Natural Progesterone Creams
USP natural progesterone creams are also sold over-the-counter and are derived from plant fats and oils - a substance called diosgenin - which is extracted from wild yams or soybeans.
A study published in The British Journal of Dermatology documented the beneficial effects of using 2% natural progesterone cream on skin texture of women during and after menopause. The impressive results showed a 23% increase in skin firmness, 29% wrinkle reduction around the eye area (crows feet) and almost 10% reduction of the depth of laugh lines.
Some companies sell both natural estrogen and progesterone together in one cream product; however, you need to find which one is best suited for your needs.
Some women may be estrogen dominate and therefore will only need or feel good when using progesterone cream. Others may be low in both estrogen and progesterone and will require both hormones.
Please be sure to speak to your gynecologist or health care professional before trying any topical hormones.
How To Use The Creams
Keep in mind, these are not face creams, they are natural topical hormone replacement creams applied to the body to help restore proper hormone balance.
They are generally applied a few times per week in small amounts (1/4 of a teaspoon) to the thin, hairless areas of the skin -- like inside your wrist or stomach.
Again, please be sure to speak to your gynecologist before trying any topical hormones, especially if you have and hormone related health issues.
What To Look For In Your Anti Aging Skincare Products
Skin care products are vital for the health and wellness of your skin. Therefore it is very important that you know what goes into the making.
Premature aging is one of the major concerns regarding skin. The skin starts to sag and develop undue wrinkles and fine lines appear on the face. This is because the collagen levels in our body begin to decline and the skin loses its former elasticity. Actually, collagen proteins are fibrous in nature. Owing to its great tensile strength, it makes the skin firm. As the collagen production decreases, the skin becomes less firm and starts to develop wrinkles and fine lines. Similarly the elastin protein which is responsible to regain the original position of the skin after it has been stretched declines.
You need a skin care product that not only fills up facial lines and wrinkles but gets absorbed by the skin and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin within.
The key to select the right skin care product is not just by looking at the list of ingredients but also noticing their concentration levels. Here are some important ingredients that you should look out for:
Collagen
It will be very tempting to buy a product that can supplement collagen proteins to your skin and compensate for the lost ones. However, the fact is collagen molecules are too big to be able to penetrate the skin surface.
Select a product that has ingredients which work to stimulate the production of collagen within the skin as apposed to having a collagen in them.
Phytessence Wakame
Found in the Japanese Sea, Phytessence Wakame is one of the exotic breeds. It prevents a harmful enzyme called hyaluronidase that is supposed to block the hyaluronic acid levels in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is what supplies collagen and elastin fibers with a glue to hold them together.
Cynergy TK
Cynergy TK is responsible for stimulating the production of collagen within the skin. By promoting the re-growth of collagen and elastin fibers, it makes the skin more firm and supple.
CoQ10
It refers to Coenzyme Q10, a vitamin like substance in your body that promotes healthy skin. Being an antioxidant, it fights off free radicals that cause damage to the body cells and skin.
However, as age sets in, the level of CoQ10 depletes in our body and the natural immune system weakens. As a results free radicals get to attack body cells and damage their structure altogether.
CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant. A lot of skin damage and aging come from free radicals wreaking havoc in our body's cells. CoQ10's antioxidant ability can counter these free radicals before damage occurs. One form of CoQ10 called Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 is a unique ‘nano-emulsion’ form of the former and is able to penetrate the deep layers of the skin, something that is not possible for others.
Natural Beauty on a Budget - No-Cost and Low-Cost Techniques For Beautiful Skin
Ok, no matter WHAT the ads tell you, the BEST things you can do for your skin are:
1) Drink plenty of water
2) Get enough quality rest
3) Minimize Stress - and don't STAY stressed - breathe, Meditate, dance, whatever it takes to de-stress (and always remember to laugh!)
4) Good nutrition - you'd think this would be a 'duh' - but it really is one of the most often over-looked must-do's
5) Exercise - yes, exercise - walking, running, aerobics, Yoga - heck I blast my 80s rock and 70s disco while the kids are at school and dance like an idiot while no one is home to watch! No one says exercise has to be boring, ritualized nor uniform. And, dancing has the added benefit of being FUN.
6) Take a quality Multi-Vitamin and Mineral supplement and please don't forget to supplement with Omega-3 Fish Oils and Flax Oil. You'll be amazed at the difference in your skin.
7) LOVE YOUR SKIN - ok, this sounds silly, but I'm serious. Thought creates reality. What the mind professes, the body expresses. Love your skin. Massage it, caress it, LOVE IT.
Now, for some no- and low-cost solutions for your skin....
1) Facial massage. Forget the creams for a minute. The single thing (besides general good health) that will benefit your face? Massage. Seriously. Wrinkles? Massage them. Sagging jaws? Massage them. Double chin? Again, Massage. Now, you can do this with your finger tips, with your favorite *rounded end* crystal or even with an electro-acupuncture device. But, bottom line is, massage!
You can combine the following facial exercises with your Skin Care program. Due to the fact that skin responds well to this type of stimulation, you will see results in lines, complexion, tone and elasticity. As an added bonus, this type of massage strengthens the underlying muscles and results in the signs of aging becoming diminished.
Use the balls of your fingertips as well as the palms of your hands. For all exercises, use gentle, but firm, pressure - this is not supposed to hurt!
If you notice that some spots you massage are tender this means you are probably hitting the precise spots. Tenderness will diminish and disappear altogether with time.
Toning around the eyes
Using your favorite Moisturizer or essential oil blend, use your middle fingers to work around each eye simultaneously. Use slight pressure - be gentle with the eye area - and circle the eyes from the inside corner of your eyebrows, following the entire eyebrow, and back around to where you started.
Repeat this circular massage 30-35 times (in one sitting) each day.
This type of stimulation of the facial muscles will tone, relax and increase Circulation to the eye area, which in turn results in diminished signs of aging.
Revitalizing the Eyes
In this exercise, the Acupressure point at the side of your face, approximately 1/4 inch past the outside corner of your eye (this is right on the outer curve of the bone around the eye), is stimulated. The second point to stimulate is directly in line and under your pupil on the top edge of the cheekbone.
This massage can soften lines and Wrinkles in the eye area. Starting with the corner points, press each simultaneously for 3 seconds and then release for a count of three. Do this 30 times and then move on to the point on the cheek bone. Do all of this in one sitting and repeat these sets 3 times a day if possible.
2) Water - yes, yes, I know I spouted off about water before, but it's important. Internally AND externally. Make SURE you wash your face twice a day - finishing the wash with a cool water rinse. And, when you have a few spare minutes....don't just hastily put the cleanser on and rinse off - take a couple minutes to massage your face - during the wash and during the rinse.
3) Oxygen - I know this sounds silly, but oxygen is important - as a matter of fact, it's crucial. So, BREATHE - breathe deep and long. Start by breathing in for a count of 4 and out for a count of four - do this five times. See if you can work your way up to a count of 15 - practice it throughout the day, but do it at *least* once a day. Sun and free radicals aren't the only things that cause Wrinkles, ya know - stress does too. And what do we do when stressed? We breath more shallow, our heart rate goes up, our digestion stops, our blood pressure goes up and blood is diverted to the limbs from all 'non-essential' body systems. Bring the blood and oxygen back - BREATHE. Speaking of oxygen... try to get some fresh air each day too!
We all want to believe the marketing hype - that we can find eternal youth in jars and tubes. But really, the secrets are so much more basic. Good nutrition, exercise, attitude and simple, natural techniques which can improve your health and take years off of your appearance.
No More Double-Takes - Naturally Taking Care of a Double-Chin Takes Years Off Your Appearance
We all hate that double-chin that creeps up on is in mid-life....but, is there anything (besides surgery) we can do about it?
Here's what I've found:
1) Lose 10 or 15 pounds. "The single best way to get rid of a double chin is to Lose Weight," says Robert Kotler, M.D., a facial cosmetic surgeon and clinical instructor in surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles. "Lots of people come to my office wanting cosmetic surgery. But if they just take off some excess weight, the problem usually diminishes to the point where they don't need any more help."
2) Get cropped. Long hair draws eyes to your neck, which, if you have a double-chin is exactly what you want to avoid. Pageboy cuts which curl under the chin are the absolute worst. "The rule is to keep it short, at or above the jawline," says Kathleen Walas, fashion and beauty director for New York Citybased Avon Products and author of Real Beauty . . . Real Women.
3) Shoulders Back! Yes, a good posture is yet another way to help you get rid of a double chin. Sitting up straight and keeping your jaw slightly jutted is going to help keep that double chin away. When you give your jaw muscles too much slack it ensures that loose skin and body fat begin to accumulate there. Try an ergonomic chair to help you stay on the 'up and up' posture-wise at work.
4) Moisturize. Although moisturizing won't prevent a double-chin, many women forget the neck and decolatage areas when cleansing and moisturizing. Be sure to give as much TLC to your neck area as you to do your face.
5) Makeup. To play down a double chin, play up another feature. Walas suggests using blush high on your cheekbones. Or, pay extra attention to your eyes using bright, tasteful shades of eye shadow. Apply foundation, if you use it, a shade darker under your chin and blend it well with your facial foundation. "That will make the rest of your face bright and attractive and your double chin much less noticeable," Walas says.
Exercising...
Facial exercises can help that double-chin challenge and should be done once a day. This is a regimen which can be continued for life, or you can scale back to three times a week after a month of doing these exercises daily.
Some folks report that minor spots or blemishes appear after starting facial exercises, and yes, this is normal. You are stimulating the skin, increasing circulation, which in turn increases production of the skin's natural lubricants and oils. This results in increased releases of impurities. This temporary side-effect will disappear very quickly once the skin is functioning efficiently again.
Skin cells, like some of us couch potatoes, tend to get lazy and stagnate. But, with proper exercises both we and our skin cells are once again activated to work with renewed vigor.
Neck and throat facial exercises
* A great exercise is to sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling while keeping your lips closed and begin a chewing movement. You will feel the muscles working in your neck and throat area - and will be truly amazed at the results. Repeat 20 times.
* Sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling, while keeping your lips closed and relaxed. Start puckering your lips together in a kiss and stretch the kiss, as if you were trying to kiss the ceiling. Keep your lips puckered for 10 counts, then relax, bring your head back to its normal position and repeat 5 times.
* Sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling, while keeping your lips closed and relaxed. Open your lips and stick your tongue out as if you were trying to touch your chin with the tip of your tongue. Keep your tongue out in this position for 10 counts, and then return your tongue and head to its normal position.
* Sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling, while keeping your lips closed and relaxed. Next move your lower lip over your top lip as far as possible and keep it there for a count of 5. Relax and repeat 5 times.
* Lie on your bed, with your head hanging down over the edge. Slowly bring your head up towards your torso and keep it there for 10 counts. Relax and lower your head towards the floor again - repeat 5 times.
* Sit upright and face forward and while keeping your lips together, separate your teeth by dropping your jaw and then push your jaw forward, keep for a count of 10, bring back to starting position and repeat 5 times.
* Chewing sugar-free gum is a great way to help maintain good hygiene and fight off a double chin. Keeping your jaw and facial muscles moving and working is the key to preventing the build up of excess fat and loose skin. The muscles in your face responsible for keeping your jaw line tight are the same muscles that you use to chew and make facial expressions-chewing gum and making facial expressions will help retain that jaw line.
